An Okarche native, Justin "Jud" Vogt Sr. grew up a committed family man, who was selected as a Rhodes Scholar but chose to stay in Oklahoma to care for his mother. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in accounting, becoming a CPA. Mr. Vogt worked as an accountant and controller for American Iron and Machine Works, a manufacturer of oilfield equipment in Oklahoma City.
His wife, Marguerite, was born in Ada, Oklahoma. She played basketball for the legendary coach Bertha Teague at Byng High School and was later inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Together, the couple loved to fish and spent time at Lake Texoma enjoying their many hobbies. They also helped to fund and design the Piedmont Library. They began giving to a number of charitable organizations as well as scholarships for students through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 1996. After Marguerite's death in 2013, Jud and his son, Justin Jr., established the Vogt Family Affiliated Fund to support the couple's charitable interests that accumulated over 55 years of marriage. Jud died in 2015, but his family's charitable legacy will continue through this endowment.
