Longtime nonprofit executive Marilyn Myers was well-respected throughout Oklahoma City for her leadership and commitment to the community.
A graduate of Classen High School, Marilyn earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Oklahoma. As director of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City, she was instrumental in the establishment of the first Festival of the Arts. In 1983 she became director of the Kirkpatrick Family Foundation, and later the director of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
Marilyn was a mentor to many area nonprofit organizations, helping to develop endowment matching opportunities for more than 130 organizations. She was also a longtime friend of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, serving as interim director, assistant secretary and trustee of several endowment funds. In 1998, she established an endowment fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation to support the organizations she was passionate about. After Marilyn's death in 2006, memorial gifts further contributed to her fund that continues to support Oklahoma Children's Theatre, Oklahoma Contemporary and the Harn Homestead.
