A self-made man, Luther T. Dulaney never shied away from hard work. Whether it was sacking grist at a mill or working in the oilfields, he gave each job his utmost attention. When he tired of working for others, he opened an electrical appliance store in downtown Oklahoma City in 1938. A few years later, he sold his retail business to start Dulaney's Inc., the sole RCA-Victor distributor for the region and at one time the largest wholesale business in the Southwest before closing in 1993.
An active civic leader, he believed that business standards and living standards were inseparable and that "our community life reflects what we are." One of nine original Trustees of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, serving from 1969-72, Mr. Dulaney’s contributions support grants providing access to health care. Mr. Dulaney died in 1973.
