Robert "Bob" and Blanche Gordon both grew up in Winnetka, Illinois. Bob graduated from Cornell University with a degree in petroleum geology and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Blanche graduated from Pine Manor Junior College before working as a secretary in downtown Chicago. The couple married in 1946 and shortly after moved to Oklahoma where Bob worked for Ashland Oil Co. He served in positions from junior geologist to vice president until 1976 when he retired and became an independent petroleum geologist.
Together with his wife, Blanche, he established the Robert & Blanche Gordon Family Affiliated Fund in 1993 to provide a way for their family to support charitable causes they cared about. While Bob died in 2004 and Blanche in 2016, daughters Peggy Duncan and Holly Elliott continue to recommend grants from the Gordon Family Affiliated Fund to support religious, educational and social service organizations in which the family has a long-term interest.
