A native of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Edward C. Joullian III received a degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University. During the Korean War, he served in the U. S. Army as commanding officer of a Petroleum Products Laboratory. He went to work for his father's natural gas gathering, processing and transmission company, Mustang Fuel Corporation, becoming chairman of the board in 1964.
Ed credited his strength of character to his experience with the Boy Scouts of America. He spent many years serving scouting at local, regional, national and international levels, leading the organization out of tumultuous times into a resurgence and growth. With his help, the organization opened its doors to younger children and became more available to single-parent homes, offering role models, leadership opportunities and values to young boys.
Ed first began giving through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 1972, contributing to a number of charitable organizations including Boy Scouts of America-Last Frontier Council, Oklahoma City Philharmonic and others. He also served as an Oklahoma City Community Foundation Trustee from 1979-85, and president from 1983-1985.
